Sustainability Overview

Our Mission Statement:

To bring responsible tin mining to Cornwall to the benefit of our stakeholders, and to sustainably supply a critical metal to the clean energy transition in the UK and beyond.

Our work on the South Crofty underground tin project and our wider exploration activities in Cornwall since 2016 have been founded on a responsible approach to developing these critical mineral assets, centred on respect for our neighbouring communities and environment, our employees and our business partners. Given the current project stage and pace of progress at South Crofty, we believe that this is the right time to formalise this approach by launching our sustainability programme. This approach was formalised in February 2023 with the launch of our Board Sustainability Committee, to provide leadership in the direction and implementation of our developing sustainability programme.

For Cornish Metals, operating sustainably encompasses our efforts to act with integrity across the business, minimise our environmental and social impacts and identify opportunities to make a positive contribution to the local environment, communities and economy. We also recognise the importance of transparent and robust health and safety, environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure to all interested parties, including our investors.

As we embark on this journey, we are taking steps to build in-house expertise and are developing a roadmap to identify and prioritise actions for the future. We understand the importance of seeking the views of local people and our wider stakeholder network as an integral part of our sustainability programme, including helping us to define our most material topics, and we plan to introduce a more structured stakeholder mapping process and engagement programme. We intend to develop a Sustainability Strategy to frame our work in this area and we are also planning for the timely implementation of systems to enable us to measure, track and report key ESG performance metrics.

These steps are intended to provide a firm foundation for our sustainability programme and future disclosure. We do not under-estimate the scale or importance of this journey and are developing a systematic approach, to be progressively refined and shared publicly as the South Crofty project progresses.
