The finance team of Cornish Metals is located at the South Crofty mine site. Due to the increased activity and growth of the Company the current employee is taking on a new role within the purchasing team and will be on hand to facilitate a smooth handover.
The role gives an opportunity to work as a key team member for a public listed company on an iconic Cornish project.
The successful candidate will need to be able to work in a small finance team and communicate effectively with technical and production staff who work in the same location.

Principle responsibilities
The role encompasses all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and month end accounts preparation that would be expected of a mining company involved in exploration and development activities. The principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- processing of invoices, credit card statements and expense claims into the Sage accounting system;
- preparation of monthly VAT and GST (Canadian VAT equivalent) returns;
- maintaining accounts payable on Sage accounting system;
- preparation of payment lists and supporting documentation;
- liaison with the Purchasing department to ensure invoices are approved against pre-existing budgets;
- prepare and submit journal entries for accounts payable, month-end accrual entries, prepayments and recurring entries to produce monthly trial balance;
- prepare month end reconciliations including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, accruals and intercompany reconciliations;
- maintain the fixed asset register and submit depreciation journals;
- process payroll when required (e.g. when the HR manager is on annual leave);
- assist in the preparation of internal management reports, including for budget versus actual variance analysis; and
- assist in the preparation for the annual audit and quarterly reviews.
As the finance team develops its procedures in the UK and the business grows, further opportunities and responsibilities will likely evolve over time.
Key relationships
The role will report to the Finance Manager, but there will be frequent interaction with the Financial Reporting Manager and Chief Financial Officer.
The role will also involve working closely with the technical staff working on the project to re-open the South Crofty mine and other mining-related activities.
External relationships will include suppliers, banks and the external auditors.

The key skills and experience which are expected for this role are:
- AAT qualification (ideally fully AAT qualified) or part CIMA qualified;
- an exceptionally high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
- bookkeeping and month end closing experience;
- working knowledge of Sage accounting software;
- the confidence to embrace and utilise other software and apps as the finance department evolves;
- excel skills for the preparation of reports;
- be a professional and enthusiastic team player with a “can do” attitude; and
- demonstrate a proactive approach and show high levels of initiative.
The Company would consider support for ongoing studies.
Desirable
Previous experience of working in a company in the extractive, construction or industrial sectors.
Working hours
Full Time 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Part time will be considered, minimum of 30 hours a week. The role is is based at the Company’s office at the South Crofty mine site in Pool, near Redruth.
